"I can think of no other edifice constructed by man as altruistic as a lighthouse. They are built only to serve." ~George Bernard Shaw
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Thou art My lamp and My light is in thee" ~Abdu'l-Baha
Everything and everyone has a purpose. The purpose of a candle or a lighthouse is to give light. We, humans, could also take upon this challenge to be a light for our loved ones and for the community we live in. It may seem impossible to stand like a lighthouse founded on a rock, particularly in the midst of violent tempests, and yet, it is possible still. We all have the capacity to be one. It will just depend on where we get our light from. What is the fuel that will help you enlighten those around you?
To build a lighthouse alone is difficult, but together, we are stronger. Many humans around the world, in some of the most remote places too, have dedicated the precious days of their lives to serve and to attend to the needs of their fellow humans. Every service is unique. In a world where darkness is ever more present, we must unite our efforts to build lighthouses together. Any group of individuals, any company, any youth group, any school, any classroom, any neighborhood, any family can do it! What would it look like?
